WARREN PUBLIC LIBRARY RULES FOR COMPUTER USE

As an important part of our mission to bring people and information together, the Warren Public Library provides a public access computer.  The same principles of freedom of information apply to computer use as to our print and other collections.  In order to deliver CD ROM’s, library-owned applications, and Internet access to our patrons in a fair and efficient way, the following rules for computer use have been adopted.

GENERAL USE

 1. The computer is available to any patron in good standing and to visitors with valid identification.

2. Tutoring in use is available and must be pre-scheduled.

3. Time slots are one-half to one hour, reservations recommended.  Walk-ins will be accommodated on a first-come first-served basis.

4. There is no charge for computer use.  Printing charges are $.15 per page.

5. Patrons may use only programs and services listed on the computer.

6. Patrons may not change computer settings or delete or modify existing files.

7. Patrons may not use personal software either to run programs or to save files.  Disks may be purchased from library staff to download information.

8. No more than two persons may share the computer.

9. Food and beverages are prohibited.

INTERNET ACCESS

1.  All patrons, regardless of age, have equal access to materials and information provided by the library.

2. The library assumes no liability for the accuracy or suitability of information on the Internet.

3. Parents/legal guardians must assume responsibility for viewing-content and for

reasonable use and care of the computer by their children.  Signed parental permission

is required for computer use by children under the age of 18.

4. Patrons must be familiar with keyboard and mouse before use.

5. Instruction for logging on and off are posted.

6. Game-players are asked to use the library’s CD ROM’s only - not Internet sites - for this activity.

7. The Internet may be used for legal purposes only.

REGISTRATION

Any patron wishing to use the public access computer is asked to fill out a Registration and User Agreement form. Forms are available at the circulation desk or online.
